Forging Heroes

Cerise Torbay, wealthy heiress, went to distant Kheddur seeking a worthy husband, but found herself obliged  by her family’s morals to volunteer for service. Little realizing how profoundly the experience would change  her, Cerise returns home from fighting overseas to a family that hardly recognizes her. After the briefest of  respites, Ceries dives headlong into the business of raising a regiment of women sharpshooter scouts at the  behest of the Crown Prince of the Kingdoms.

As Cerise strives to meet the Crown Prince’s expectations, a conspiracy to overthrow the rightful ruler of the  land is underway. While the King’s army remains in Kheddur, bandits prowl the roads and raid the homes of  the wealthy. Cerise’s still-forming regiment is the only hope the kingdom has against the bandits. Can Cerise  and her untested troops overcome prejudice and prove their mettle, and restore peace to their homeland?

As the seasons turn, the Sisters wage a battle against the clock to reclaim the roads of the kingdom  before the icy winter weather sets in. While her soldiers patrol the distant roads of Kthan, Brigadier  Torbay fights in the background to recruit and train new soldiers to sustain the fight against the  chaos let loose in the kingdom. As winter turns to spring, signs of organization and intent begin to  manifest, suggesting that the battles the Sisters have fought over the winter are driven by forces  hostile to the kingdom. If the disturbing signs of rebellion weren’t enough, the Sisters’ patron  decides to perform a surprise inspection of their camp. Will the Sisters be prepared for the rebels to  reveal themselves?

With the army absent,  detachments of rebel soldiers march across the land, burning granaries and mills, seeking to either starve the people into  submission or force them to join the rebellion. Against this onslaught, Brigadier Torbay deploys her tiny command, striving to  stem the tide before the rebellion breaks the kingdom. Outnumbered but not outmanned, the Sisters of 1st Sharpshooters and 1st  Mounted Infantry challenge the rebels’ cruelty with courage and clever tactics, buying time for their distant masters in the capital.
